CAGED ART

Inmates are able to help provide for their loved ones by utilizing their artistic talents. We display and market their artwork as well as consider prints for all variety of products in the Print On Demand venue such as t-shirts, mugs, plaques, phone cases, etc.  All of the inmate’s portion of profits garnered from the sale of inmate’s artwork is sent to their children or family, thereby alleviating any improprieties of inmates operating a business while incarcerated. A portion of all proceeds of artwork sales is also donated to nationwide crime victims fund.

Go to the CAGED ART STORE to view and purchase inmate artwork that has new pieces added regularly.

Bednago Harper

Art is the supreme value among the works of man because it is self-sufficient and has no aim beyond its own perfection. When a work of art is created, it is there simply to exist and to be beautiful.

My name is Bednago Harper. Long ago, I read those words somewhere, and for whatever reason they’ve never left me. All throughout my life, I’ve often wondered of the hows and whys of the things people do. But never have I ever questioned the fact of my love for my art and my writing because nothing else in my life has ever given me the same satisfaction.

Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, I became strongly impassioned with art somewhere around kindergarten. Somewhere around the seventh or eighth grade, I developed an intense and hopeless passion of expressing my thoughts and ideas through the written word – I’ve been willfully entrapped in my art and writing ever since.

Throughout life’s ups and downs, I’ve been hood rich, dirt poor, cold, hungry, lonely and hurting, but I have always – always – been learning. It’s through my art and my writing that I seek to share the common thread of life that binds us all, regardless of our race, creed, color, religion or the lack thereof. Through my art and written word, I try to express that underneath our perfect imperfections, we’re all the same.

A little about “el artista.” I’m 39-years-old. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I’m half Guatemalan, half Puerto Rican and 100% fun. On top of drawing I like to spend my time reading, listening to Spanish music and working out. I value family, honesty and loyalty.

Thanks for your time and again I hope you enjoy! I speak both English and Spanish.

Donald P. Gailey

I started painting two years ago after my mother passed away from cancer. She wished I would have continued my artwork because 20 years ago I used to send envelopes I had drawn on, or cards. After her passing I began to paint and now I do it every day.

I enjoy painting landscapes the most, but I also paint wildlife and portraits. In back to back years I’ve placed 8th and 2nd in the prison art contests.

I’ve been incarcerated for 23 years of a life sentence. My wish is that everyone enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy creating them.

Sammie Sinclair

Hey People,

I’m an up and coming artist. I make tattoos, portraits, logos, etc. I’m thinking of starting some kind of clothing line or just sell my designs.

I’m in prison now, my first and last time. I’ve been through a lot in my 41 years and I’m a much better man because of it. I’m focused, mature, attentive, driven, and a gentleman. I have a loving family and I love myself.

You can contact me on the JPay app or J-pay.com. Send vids, emails, etc. I’m looking for a deep connection.

Juan Garnica

I live, work, & aspire to be the best that is within me. Purpose fuels passion. My motivation has no limits. The only binds that exist are created in the mind. I am in prison but I embrace freedom. The artist enhances life for himself & his surroundings. I am an artist & my passion is rooted in the beauty of life. My art is a reflection of liberty. The autonomy to express the beauty I hold in my heart. We’re all susceptible to the gloom in this world. I endeavor to extinguish the glamor. I espouse life as a graceful woman; my muse & fountain of inspirations. All great art stirs emotion. When you look at my art you are seeing me. I am a reflection of my world, full of pain and unattractive. I inspire you to see the beauty in the midst. This is who I am, rough around the edges. Forged in life’s fire. Striving to capture that flame & harness its strength to shine a light on the world’s charm. This is me. This is my art.

Michael York

My artwork is the best mental health therapy I could ever receive. The bliss I experience during my process is beyond words. Hopefully my art can transfer some of that bliss to others as they view my work.

Jaylen Folk

Hello, my name is Jaylen Folk and it’s an honor to be on Caged Art. I have always loved art since I was a little kid. Because of art and my other favorite subject in school – math – I grew up wanting to be an architect for my dream job. While incarcerated I spend my time drawing, reading my Bible as well as a lot of anime, and working out. I just enrolled into Stratford Career Institute to become a certified electrician. Any profit that I make from the sales of my artwork will go to helping me pay for my classes.

Thank you for viewing my profile and I hope you like what you see. I look forward to making more authentic artwork for you. Stay Blessed Up Always!

Kenneth Brunner

I am an enrolled member of the White Earth Reservation, member of the Ojibway tribe. I grew up going to and from Minneapolis to the White Earth Reservation. I’ve been on every reservation in Minnesota (Minnesotanzin – do you understand). I’m fluent in Anishenabemowin Native language, I also speak some Spanish and German. In 1987 I graduated High School, went on to college for Business Management and attended Summit Academy for construction.

Throughout my life I helped raise nine children; I have seven boys and two girls. During my entire life I’ve struggled with alcoholism and drugs. While raising my children I managed to start by own small business which was somewhat profitable. I was raised traditional by my grandmother, which in turn made me a very spiritual being. I can honestly say I have not missed a day of prayer in over 39 years – I’ve given thanks every day to Kiche Manitou (Great Spirit).

I do have high morals and values when it comes to family. All of the crimes of my past I was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, which made me make poor choices in my actions in the past. Today I am not that person I have change within myself, sober 11 years now.

In the Ojibway culture butterfly means a change is coming or already has occurred. That’s why I put butterflies in my paintings; I have changed. I’m gooder. I value family, friends, peace, love and happiness helping others.

Steven Tucker

My name is Steven Tucker. My artist name is KAS, which is an acronym that means Kool Ass Steve. I was born in West Philly and raised all over the city. I am 49 years wise and counting. My persona is very keen intorovert (which means I’m always observing and studying).

Other than that I love my children more than anything, and I’m on a mission to leave them a legacy. I’m currently serving 15 to 30 year sentence. I’m 11 years in so I’m on my way to meeting them people soon. So send me some positive energy.
